Creating a magnificent dome on this scale drew on our considerable experience and expertise, but it perfectly satisfied our client’s wish for an unusual dining room featuring a 7-metre diameter dome at their imposing period mansion. With 28 segments in total, the dome’s spars were run from a specially made die and then bent over a press, while the glass is one piece curved double glazing. A lower link was built to give the dome an attractive freestanding feel, and its lead-covered cupola stands at over 8 metres above the ground. A vast, one-piece glass table is the dome’s impressive centrepiece and was specially sourced from Hong Kong by the client, before being lifted into place by a crane. We’ve used discreet, in-set low voltage lighting to create a radiant glow and magical ambience when darkness falls, and although undeniably spectacular, the dome as a whole blends seamlessly with the original home.
Our unique construction methods allowed us to produce a dome with the most slender glazing bars available.
