A Northumbrian Retreat

Case Study - Northumbria

This imposing Victorian house has had its
conservatory reinstated to occupy the exact
site of the original structure

A charming feature of this hall is that the owners retained a picture of the original Victorian conservatory. The project was designed and built to the original specifications including the high clerestory windows to the rear wall. Note that the pitch of the roof follows the original – see the marks on the stone wall.

The structure extends from the library/sitting room and while internal furnishings are in keeping with a modern lifestyle, the practical use to which the space is devoted continues the tradition stretching back for around 150 years. The rigours of a north east winter are kept comfortably at bay.

Caulfield Conservatories

Individually handcrafted, the design is perfectly compatible with the Victorian original.

Working with nature

The traditional bespoke hardwood conservatory was designed to replace a listed greenhouse attached to a Grade II listed 19th century stone castle, deep in the Yorkshire Dales. Used by it’s owners as a garden room sanctuary to a beautiful walled garden.

A marriage of form
and function

Case Study - Newark

In this flagship project with many technical considerations, careful planning and construction created
a true architectural masterpiece

Creating a magnificent dome on this scale drew on our considerable experience and expertise, but it perfectly satisfied our client’s wish for an unusual dining room featuring a 7-metre diameter dome at their imposing period mansion. With 28 segments in total, the dome’s spars were run from a specially made die and then bent over a press, while the glass is one piece curved double glazing. A lower link was built to give the dome an attractive freestanding feel, and its lead-covered cupola stands at over 8 metres above the ground. A vast, one-piece glass table is the dome’s impressive centrepiece and was specially sourced from Hong Kong by the client, before being lifted into place by a crane. We’ve used discreet, in-set low voltage lighting to create a radiant glow and magical ambience when darkness falls, and although undeniably spectacular, the dome as a whole blends seamlessly with the original home.

Our unique construction methods allowed us to produce a dome with the most slender glazing bars available.

Perfectly combining the best

Case Study - Hertfordshire

Every Caulfield conservatory will look and feel at home in its natural surroundings

The conservatory was designed to compliment a Grade II listed Georgian vicarage in a quaint village in Hertfordshire. Fitting perfectly within its picturesque landscape, this classic structure highlights the range which our designers can deliver on any brief.

This elegant gabled structure is a dining room extension that allows stunning views of the grounds and church under which it nestles. Slender glazing bars were deliberately chosen for the way they complement the fine glazing bars of the adjoining Georgian home and yet we were still able to provide double-glazing, essential in a modern glazed room. The new conservatory follows the line of an original conservatory built around 1900, and we planned the height of the ridge to match that of the original. Detail has been impeccably reproduced and it’s worth noting the dentil moulding on both the conservatory and the main house. Careful and sympathetic design helped our architectural team win planning consent and the end result is a delightful enhancement that adds light and space to the house.

Using fine glazing bars give us the flexibility to work on listed buildings.
